It would be cool if I could confidently tell you that getting through an entire day was possible without one (or three) of the below calming rituals. Unfortunately, or very fortunately, such isn’t the case. We all need a little TLC when it comes to taking care of ourselves, both physically and emotionally. Time and time again I learn that I’m not the exception, and chances are you aren’t either. I compiled a short, but very practical list of the things that keep me sane when life is everything but.
- Bubble Baths.
Anywhere from Thailand to Manhattan, this is one ritual not to skip out on. Although the best baths are admittedly taken at home, I’ve found that with a healthy pour of bath salts and lavender-scented bubble bath mix you can recreate that feeling anywhere. If you don’t carry a stash of bath salts and bubbles in your purse at all times (normal, right?), then essential oils will work just as well. I use either lavender or eucalyptus oil and pour 8-10 drops into the running water.
- Golden Milk.
Sounds decadent, and it indeed is. Gaia Herbs sent me their signature Golden Milk to try out and it tastes and feels just as nourishing as it sounds. Golden Milk is a delicious combination of turmeric, ashwagandha, dates, and herbs formulated into a soft, fragrant powder that supports and tonifies the entire body. The best way to drink it is mixed into a warm mug of milk; I recommend either steamed coconut or almond milk with a pinch of saffron to enhance the natural flavors. The mix is vegan and gluten free with no GMOs or soy. I love using Golden Milk as part of my daily mindfulness routine.
- Sunset Chasing.
It wasn’t until last year’s travels to Asia that I was able to add sunset chasing (not literally!) to my list of calming rituals. Being across the world in very foreign places where often the only person I knew was my photographer, I naturally craved some grounding and familiarity. I found that one of the most obvious places that I could connect was to the setting sun. There’s something especially warming about the idea that the sun rises and sets like clockwork in all parts of the world. As obvious as it may seem, the same sun I am accustomed to watching over the waves in Miami, through the city’s skyline in New York would now be the same sun bringing the day to a close on the coast of Indonesia. No uncertainty or change of schedule, just consistency. The sunset shot above dancing into the summer’s eve captures all of the above in one moment.
Now it’s great and all to continue to talk about it, but you have to actually practice calming rituals to receive their benefits. If you play your cards right, maybe you’ll end up in a bubble bath with a mug of Golden Milk overlooking the sunset for the ultimate calm. Gaia Herbs is sharing the love and is asking you to share your mindfulness affirmation for a chance to win a Mindfulness Grand Prize including: 1-year supply of Gaia Herbs Golden Milk, 1-year supply of Califia Farms Almondmilk, four tickets to any Wanderlust 108 on the spring/summer 2017 tour and one 60-minute breathwork session with Ashley Neese.
