For many people targeting their belly is the hardest part of weight loss and helping them achieve a healthy state. Doing thousands of crunches won’t help you much when it comes to losing belly fat. Sometimes it’s bloating, sometimes it’s post-pregnancy flab, and sometimes it’s all of that late-night snacking you’ve been doing, but the good news is that it’s never too late to get the tummy you’ve always dreamed of. After all, abs are made in the kitchen. Follow these 5 simple tricks and you’ll be on your way in there in no time.
1. Ditch the kitch after 6, and 9 on weekends.
It’s a well-known fact that eating late can trigger weight gain, especially because late night eating is when you’re prone to making bad choices. If you don’t finish work or school until a little later, either plan ahead or just make sure to get your meal in at least 3 hours before bed time. In a recent study using mice, late-night eating was tested and the results showed that the mice who ate later had a 48% weight increase. The mice who ate at the right time only showed a 20% weight increase. Hmmm..
2. Drink plenty of water.
Carry a water bottle with you everywhere you go and keep refilling! Water is just what you’ll need to flush your system, prevent bloating, and make you feel fuller longer. Aim for at least 4 bottles of water a day or 8-10 cups.
3. Stay away from certain foods.
White Bread – White Pasta – Processed Foods – Heavy Meats – Heavy Oils – Fried Foods – High Fructose Corn Syrup
4. Eat fat!
I already know what you are thinking, but I am talking about the good kind of fats. Foods like chia seeds, avocado, and almonds are big contributors when it comes to nutrients and weight loss. Include a sprinkle of chia seeds in your morning smoothie or yogurt to get the benefits of high fiber, omega 3 fatty acids, and antioxidants.
5. Tighten your tummy.
You don’t need to run to the gym for this one. Do it anywhere at any time- at your desk, in the car, at school or at work. Take a deep breath in through your nose, allow your tummy to expand. Then exhale and contract your stomach, tightening your abs. Resume your normal breath, but keep your abs tightened. Whenever you catch yourself letting loose, remember tuck & tighten!
Sometimes it’s the little things that are stopping you from getting the body you deserve. Always make sure to keep your body healthy by eating the right foods, not restricting calories, and allowing yourself a treat every now and then. The most powerful tool to weight loss is your mind, use it well
