Miami style. Yes, still. I was supposed to go back home to NYC on Monday, but the “historic” winter storm, Juno kept me safe and sound in the sunny Miami weather. I’m not complaining.
If you’re not familiar with What I Ate Wednesday, it’s a pretty self-explanatory weekly post that I like to do to showcase what a yogi and studying Registered Dietitian eats in a day. It’ll vary from Wednesday to Wednesday, but I try to include as much of my day as I can to inspire you with new and realistic meal ideas.
Breakfast: Greek Yogurt, Banana, Berries
You’ll notice that this is a pretty standard breakfast for me. I’ll often switch off between yogurt and eggs, but breakfast is always a protein accompanied with a fruit and/or carbohydrate. Today I went for the usual and mixed the banana and berries together into the yogurt.
Snack: Cinnamon Dusted Apple
I have a crazy love for cinnamon. Around 10 am instead of just having a boring apple at my desk, I chopped it up and sprinkled it with cinnamon. Cinnamon helps with relieving inflammation and reducing cargo-cravings. Hoping it works. Fingers crossed. 😉
Lunch: Scoop of Tuna, Steamed Vegetables, and Salad
It’s 1 pm and I’m already starving! Miami Juice is one of my favorite spots in Miami, and has been since I was like 7 years old. I end up eating here about 6-8 times a week, as you may or may not be able to tell on my Instagram. This is the kind of salad you eat and in an hour you’re hungry again, so I always bulk up on extra steamed veggies. As much as I’m putting off real work, it’s time to start baking for the blog.
Snack: Carrots with Vinegar Dipping Sauce
4 pm and I need a little pick me up. I think the cinnamon trick is working. This dipping sauce is a vinegar based dressing with red onion, peanuts, and cilantro. Perfection.
Dinner: Steamed Tilapia over Veggies and a Side Salad
Dessert: Greek Yogurt and a Vegan Chocolate Bar
I can’t finish the day off without something sweet. Admittedly, that’s something I’d like to perfect. This froyo snack just happened to be in the freezer and I’ve never tried it before, so I gave it a shot. The combo did the trick and satisfied my sweet tooth big time. As for my reflection of the day, I’m pretty satisfied. I did quite a bit of snacking, especially since I was preparing my Buffalo Baked Cauliflower Bites (recipe is going up tomorrow) in honor of the Superbowl, but it was too good to pass up.
The overall goal is always balance and moderation. It’s easy to drive yourself crazy over food, what you’ll eat and how you’ll eat it. My biggest wish for you is to take one thing from this post. New meal options, clean snack ideas, a more balanced eating schedule, or even less processed food choices. You don’t need to make the changes overnight and you don’t need to throw away everything unhealthy in your kitchen. Living a clean, whole, and healthy lifestyle is something you want to stick to for the rest of your life. Make one change a day, forgive yourself when you slip, and keep moving forward everyday. Xx
